Born in Bilbao, Mariano holds a bachelor degree in Biology and a PhD on veterinary, from University Complutense of Madrid. He is a functionary at the regional government of Biscay. He has been the president of Slow Food movement at regional and national level, and part of the scientific committee for the acceptance of new food. Also he was municipal counsellor for Bilbao, from 2012-2015 and MercaBilbao’s vice-president for the same period. He has written more than a 100 scientific articles in national and international magazines on recovery of breeds and produce at risk of extinction. He is advisor in projects related to local produce recuperation in various countries.
